Not when prep and cure are handled properly. Chips at handle height and on the cutlery drawer come from paint over grease, skipped primer, heavy brushed coats or hard use before curing finished. Thin sprayed passes of waterborne alkyd enamel or 2K polyurethane over the correct primer, given their cure time, hold at those spots for years.
Intact thermofoil takes paint over a bonding primer and a sprayed topcoat. Thermofoil that has lifted or bubbled beside the dishwasher or range cannot be painted back down. Those doors get stripped to bare MDF or swapped for new doors sprayed to match, and they appear separately on the quote.
Spraying needs a booth for doors, an enclosure in the kitchen for boxes, and extra time for thin passes with sanding between.
